How to cook basmati rice

Ingredient List:

1 cup basmati rice

1 cinnamon stick (optional)

1 teaspoon salt

3 cups of water (plus more for rinsing)

1 tablespoon butter


Step 1: Wash and drain rice till water runs clear.

Step 2:  In a small to medium sized pot, place washed rice, 2 cups of water water, salt and cinnamon stick on high heat for roughly 10 minutes or until rice is just about cooked.

Step 3: Strain excess water and return the rice back to the pot.

Step 4: Add butter and another 1 cup of water,  

Step 5: Gently fluff with a fork.

Step 6: Cover with a lid and steam on a low heat for 10 minutes to 15 minutes (Resist the urge to stir or fluff. Just make sure that your heat is on low).  

Serve hot. 

Tips: To make this a vegetable rice, simply add 1 cup of peas or frozen veg to step 4.
